First Summer Pop-up – Crystal River State Park

By Bob Lewis

Our first summer trip brought 6 members to the Crystal River State Park under sunny skies.  Eleven species were identified including the Blue Gray Gnat-catcher, thanks to Bill’s quick eye.

Another highlight at the boat basin location of an Osprey platform which has attracted breeding pairs since 2008 was to watch two recent juveniles fishing on their own. A Coast Guard Auxiliary member on site reported people watching the parenting process from nest building to when the adults left.

Keep an eye out for a future summer trip in August on the water around the same time in mid month.
